About

Welcome to Big Red Barn and Boots, a place where we share about all things gardening, simple cottage living, our cottage farmhouse restoration and from scratch recipes.

In 2017 we moved to an old farm in the Ozarks. Our goal when we moved here was to be mostly self- sufficient.  We’re still working on that goal!  After moving we were anxious to start filling the pantry from our land, but we needed some skills!
How are we going to do this farming thing?

Taking a look at some different farming methods we decided on permaculture. Shaun tent camped while taking the Midwest Permaculture Class.  I studied Ruth Stout Gardening and we combined the two, which works pretty well for us.

More About Us

I grew up in a small rural community in North Mississippi.  My siblings and I spent a lot of time at my grandmother’s, Maimie, playing outside and helping in the garden.  My parents were kinda hobby farmers.  Daddy always had animals and they would have a small garden in the summer.

I love chia tea, thrifting for our cottage farmhouse, and growing food in our cottage garden.

Shaun grew up in the military and traveled to many places throughout his childhood.  He is a self proclaimed coffee snob and has passed the torch on to our oldest son.  In his downtime, you’ll find him in his recliner reading.  He has built a chick-shaw for our chickens, does the carpentry for our farmhouse restoration and is converting our inground pool into a greenhouse.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
