Celebrating the Christmas Season: A Devotion

A checklist for Jesus? Celebrating the birth of Jesus can seem to get crowded out by our endless Christmas “To Do List.” At the end of the day, does it really feel like celebrating?

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men ” Colossians 3:23 KJV

Look at Mary and Martha, for example. Jesus was at their house! Let that sink in…this was huge! The Savior was in their house. Mary soaked it all in. She was sitting there at His feet, worshipping her Lord! What was Martha doing? She was busy making sure everything got done and missing out on time with Jesus (see Luke 10:38-42).  Sure we have tasks to do, but believe me, it will be there later.

As the countdown narrows let us remember why we’re really preparing for the 25th!

Be sensitive to the Lord’s leading. What is it He wants you to do? Yes, He does have a plan for you.

“For I know the plans I have for you” – this is the Lord’s declaration – “plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.  Jeremiah 29:11 HCSB

Enjoy this Christmas season. Spend time with your spouse. Put a puzzle together with your kiddos or watch a Christmas movie together with popcorn. Go old school on your Christmas activities. However you choose to celebrate with your loved ones, I encourage you to be in the moment for the people you’re with and not for people on social media you rarely talk to.

I hope this Christmas is filled with loved ones and sweet memories.

Merry Christmas,

Alisha
