Delicious Hamburger Steak Cooked in Creamy Gravy

If you’re wondering what to cook for dinner, look no further!  Delicious hamburger steak cooked in creamy gravy is a winner in my house.  This meal is quite simple to make and very filling.

Why You Should Make Hamburger Steak!

(Some links are affiliate links.  See my disclosure here.)

This is a gluten free meal.  My husband and kids had theirs on a piece of bread, but I had mine on top of basmati rice.  I get mine in bulk from azure standard.  Here’s the link if you’re interested.

Go for a leaner hamburger meat since the steak is cooked in the gravy.  And if you’re wondering, this meal does not feel or taste greasy.  I went with an 80/20 beef.

One pot meal makes for an easier clean up!  That’s always a bonus.  I recommend cooking this meal in a covered cast iron.

Now let’s look at the ingredients

For the Gravy:

  • Milk or bone broth
  • Butter
  • Flour (I use gluten free)
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Salt & Pepper to taste

Hamburger Steak Patties:

  • Ground beef
  • Jalapenos, chopped
  • Garlic powder
  • Egg
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions for the Gravy

Melt butter in the cast iron. Once melted, slowly add flour. Add salt and pepper. Using a fork, mix flour into the butter. Allow the flour to brown, this gives it a good flavor. Add milk, slowly. Continuously stir making sure there are no lumps. If it is too thick, add a little water. The gravy should be pourable, not too thick and not too thin. Just right 🙂

Notes

As for a gluten free option, I served mine over rice and added chives.  I did make the gravy with cassava flour, a gluten free flour.  If gluten isn't an issue for you, All Purpose flour works great too.
My family prefers it served over a piece of bread and topped with cheese.
