How to be a Content Homemaker

How to be a Content Homemaker?  Ask anyone this question and you’ll probably get a different answer from every person.  As a woman with a good many years under my belt, I can honestly say that I’m a pretty content person.  Here, I’ll share what I feel is the path to contentment.

Steps to Finding Contentment

  1. In a world that seems full of crazies, get back to the basics.  Choose contentment in the everyday activities.
  2. Love on your family.  Minister to them through your acts of kindness…serving meals, laundry, making beds, and all the little things you do for them out of love.
  3. Cultivate spaces that are a haven of peace and rest for you, your family and guests.

Contentment in Everyday Activities:

We know our rhythms and duties expected of us on a daily basis.  I’m sure we can all relate that some of those activities are not our favorite.  Here lies the first step in finding contentment.  Choose it or learn to be content with that thing we would rather avoid.

Yes, finding contentment is a matter of choice and can be learned.

We find it through how we love & care for our family. Fulfilling our God given duties will bring contentment…with the right attitude and heart that is.  For when our attitude is right, contentment is easier to embrace.

Act of kindness:

Funny how serving others changes us!  We begin to see those we’re ministering to through eyes of love and not as a burden.  This is definitely true for the homemaker serving her family.

Philippians 4:11 says:

“Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.”

We can learn to be content in all circumstances, as professed by the writer of Philippians 4:11.  How to be content? Learn and grow as you live this beautiful life God has given you.

Cultivating Spaces of Peace and Rest:

This is one of my favorite parts of homemaking!  Cultivating spaces that bring about peace and rest.  You may be thinking, “How is this accomplished?”

Whatever your style may be, place things in pockets of your home that bring about peace/rest.  For example, have areas of your home that make you want to sit down and stay awhile.  Comfy pillows in a chair with a nice throw blanket.  Complete the area with captivating books or a nice cup of tea/coffee.

Bring in flowers to make the home beautiful.  Flowers on the table give a nod to “home.”  You know how home has a certain feeling?  The feeling of comfort, like you belong there.

How to be Content

Circumstances change.  As they do…

We can choose contentment in our everyday life.

We can also learn to be content in those not so comfortable circumstances.

So, friend, finding contentment is a choice.
